Opportunity Spotlight

Security is no longer an add-on, it’s a buying requirement

As connected devices become increasingly critical to business operations, customers are placing greater emphasis on security when selecting IoT solutions.

Coverage and cost remain important, but organisations are frequently asking how devices are protected, how data is secured and how engineers can gain remote access safely.

Cyber threats continue to increase

Businesses are becoming more aware of the risks associated with internet-connected devices.

Connected devices are constantly being targeted

Spitfire's live honeypot environment shows thousands of attack attempts every hour against a single public IP address. At the time of writing this (11.02am on 6th August), there have been 6,468 attack attempts in the last hour.

Security is becoming a competitive advantage

Partners who can demonstrate a security-first approach are increasingly differentiating themselves from competitors.

Security starts at the connectivity layer

What are businesses asking for in 2026?

As IoT deployments become increasingly critical to business operations, customers are asking more detailed questions about how solutions
are deployed, managed and secured.

Security

How are devices protected
and how is data
secured?

Spitfire's solution ...

Private networking removes devices from the public internet, significantly reducing the attack surface and helping eliminate many common cyber threats.

Remote Access

Can engineers securely access and troubleshoot devices without visiting site?

Spitfire's solution ...

Secure remote access enables engineers to connect to devices quickly and cost-effectively, reducing the need for expensive site visits and improving response times.

Resiliency

What happens if connectivity fails and how is service continuity maintained?

Spitfire's solution ...

Dual IMSI connectivity provides access to all 4 major mobile networks via two mobile network operators, adding multiple layers of resiliency for connectivity.

Commercial Flexibility

Can costs be aligned to the customer's contract and usage profile?

Spitfire's solution ...

Flexible commercial models make it easier to design solutions that meet both technical and budgetary requirements.

By discussing these requirements early in the sales process, partners can often uncover additional opportunities and better differentiate their solutions.

IoT Myth Busters

Myth:

"Our SIMs connect to the strongest available network"

We are often told a SIM automatically connects to the strongest or fastest available network. In reality, this is not true. All cellular SIMs must follow set of rules defined by the 3GPP network selection process, which says a SIM tells the device to select a network from a pool of ‘qualifying’ networks based on factors such as availability, roaming agreements and signal thresholds. It does not scan for the ‘fastest’ available network and connect to it.

Think of it like landing in a foreign country. If every phone connected to the strongest network, it would quickly become congested and no longer be the strongest. Instead, the 3GPP rules ensure connections are distributed across qualifying networks according to predefined criteria.

What does this mean for you? A device connecting to a particular network doesn't necessarily mean it has selected the strongest signal. Unless it is steered towards a specific network, it’s connected to a randomly chosen network that meets the pre-defined rules.

Commercial Corner

Pay Per MB

Pay only for the data you use.

Eliminate the risk of unused allowances and keep costs aligned to actual data consumption.

PIA Bundles

Purchase data upfront to secure lower data rates and match connectivity costs to your customer contract terms.

Simplify billing and protecting margins.

Pooled Data

One shared allowance across a group of SIMs.

With pooled data you ensure data goes where it's needed most.
